This Sonata marks the beginning of Beethoven's last period, where the forms are more complex and the ideas are more wide-ranging. Our teacher shows how to achieve what he calls a "stereophonic effect" between the power of harmonic modulations and the sophisticated melodies, interpreting the whole movement as an introduction to the further movements, especially to the final fugue.
