Brahms, the Romantic

Three New Masterclasses with repertoire by Johannes Brahms for Violin, Cello and Piano; three new blog posts and much more!

Who does not associate May with romance? Flowers bloom, Nature shimmers with sparks of new life all around; birds cherish their eggs, and creativity is everywhere. It’s a colourful month, full of things to come, prelude to Summer.

Today, May 7th, was Johannes Brahms date of birth, and how joyful Nature must have been to give life to this diligent and romantic composer. The highly constructed nature of Brahms's works was a starting point and an inspiration for a large generation of composers and musicians.

For this month we have three new Masterclasses with Brahms repertoire; Brahms Scherzo Op. 4 for piano, Brahms Violin Sonata No. 2, and Brahms Cello Sonata No. 1. Find your favourite instrument and Master Teacher below.

musiMentor Blog Posts

Feldenkrais and playing freely on the cello

"Playing an instrument is a permanent discovery experience. Students are the best teachers to a teacher. I love working with musicians of all kinds of disciplines, reaching them tools to achieve more ease in the complex action of practising, performing, not by setting musical rules but by opening the path of discovery."

Nadia David

Nadia wrote a blog about awareness and movement and the principals of the Feldenkrais Method.

Conducting Technique - Brahms Symphony No. 1

"There's always been a lot of talking about the "magic" of conducting: truth is that, like in all other arts, the technical aspect of it is something that everyone can learn and perfect, but it's something that needs to go beyond beating repetitive patterns endlessly.

It was a revelation to learn from one of my teachers, the great conductor Harold Farberman, that there was a practical approach to replace formula patterns and create a new technique from the music itself. Since then, it has given me immense joy to share this knowledge and help to create a new generation of conductors, fully conscious of the direct connections that lie between gestures and sound."

Gianmaria Griglio

Read Gianmaria's wrote a blog about an approach to the opening of Brahms First Symphony.
